I really like the idea of SIDE protection and the ability to use a 3pt system in a pinch...anyone using these?

I'd like to do a shakedown before a couple events in the fall and also just become more familiar with the track.

My wife over reacts to blonde jokes ... jokes are jokes to me, but she couldn't help but send this one to me ... probably her first ever.

The Porch

A blonde teenage girl, wanting to earn some extra money for the summer decided to hire herself out as a 'handy-woman', and started by canvassing a nearby well-to-do neighborhood.

She went to the front door of the first house and asked the owner if he had any odd jobs for her to do.

"Well, I guess I could use someone to paint my porch" he said "How much will you charge me?"

Delighted, the girl quickly responded "How about $50?"

The man agreed and told her the paint, brushes and everything she would need was in the garage. The man's wife overhearing the conversation said "Does she realize the porch goes all the way around the house?"

He responded "Don't you think that's a bit cynical?"

The wife replied "You're right, I guess I am starting to believe all those dumb blonde jokes"

Later that day the blonde came to the door to collect her money.

"You're finished already?" asked the startled husband

The blonde replied "Yes, and I had paint left over so I gave it two coats"

Impressed, the man reached into his pocket for the $50 and even gave her a $10 tip.

"And by the way" the blonde added "it's not a Porch it's a Ferrari"

RT Makes Showing at Watkins Glen

Richard got a real high last week ... and knocked one off my "bucket list" by getting to run the Glen for the first time ... and what a way to do it ... fortunate enough to get an invite to an invitation only 2 day all open track event (just like the David Murry format).

For those optically challenged note the RT decal on my wing in the 1st pic in the garage.

Here's a surprise ... note in 3rd pic of garage ... 3 Porsches ready to go and a Ferrari on the left jacked up, and not for a tire change ... unfortunately she only made the first morning session and then out for the event w/ breakdown ... best thing about that car was the driver ... 6' tall hott blonde ... btw ... she could drive and did all the work on her car.

My buddy Dennis has done a lot for me over the years and he always seems to need the return favor when I'm up to my ears in work... But yesterday I gave him a hand swapping out his transmission in his 2002Z06. I'd done mine in my previous C5 9 times for various things over the 3.5 years I owned it. Seemed like Everytime I upped the HP on the platform, I'd kill the clutch. Dennis hadn't ever done any work on his, other than regular maintenance, but had developed an issue with the car popping out of gear in 3/4 shifts... Common issue with bent shift forks from abuse. Since he bought the car used, he claims it was from previous ownership, but who knows... Anyway, I'd located a used transmission from one of my race buddies and yesterday showed up to swap the trans out...

Here's what is required on one of these cars, and is an excellent example of GM's backwards engineering...
The trans is in the rear of the drivetrain, bolted to the diff. There is a large housing that encompasses the driveshaft and attaches to the bellhousing. In order to get the trans out you have to remove the following:

Remove the console and unbolt the shifter from the torque tube
Remove the rear wheels
unbolt the rear Swaybar mounts and let the swaybar rest on the endlinks
Unbolt the rear mufflers
Disconnect the rear O2 sensors
Drain the trans and diff fluid
Unbolt the exhaust from the headers
Unbolt the exhaust from the chassis at both ends
Remove the tunnel plate (48 4mm bolts)
Unbolt the upper control arms
Unbolt the rear brake calipers
Unbolt the real CVaxles and pop them out of the differential
Disconnect the e-brake cables
Disconnect the extensive wiring harness from the wheel sensors, the differential (temp sensor) and the transmission (Tempsensor/Speed Sensor/ and nuetral saftey switch)
Detatch the clips that hold the hard brakelines to the rear sub-frame
Unbolt the lower dust shield from the bellhousing
Unbolt the hydraulic bearing for the clutch
Unbolt the torque tub
Unbolt the subframe nuts
Raise the car (Thank god he had a lift)
Slide the assembly out form under the vehicle.
Now you have to unbolt the torque tube from the trans
Remove the shift rod from the trans
Unbolt the trans from the diff

The assembly now is VERY heavy. The trans alone is about 120#. The suspension uprights, hubs, and rear subframe, although aluminum are very heavy, and the rear diff is about 90#. The torque tube ain't heavy, but still about 30#...

Overall it took us about 8 hours to swap the setup out. I hadn't done any work on a Vette in over four years... Used to take me 7 hours to do clutch on one with long tube headers installed... Ugh... There is nothing easy about this job, and I can see why techs want 12 hours labor to do a clutch... My 996TT is so much simpler to work on and is just more logically laid out... I'd almost pay not to have him do it again!:rotfl:

A scan of the "other" enthusiast boards (Rennlist and suxblings to be specific) recently have shown why I'm glad I am an active member here...

Seeing some recent drama threads on both boards have just reminded me of the "lack" of drama here on Renntrack... Makes me appreciate this place that much more, and those who made the effort to create it!

I'm thinking of getting rid of my 2010 Smart Car and getting into a Lotus Exiege. Does anyone here know what the main diff is between an Exige and a Exige S. I'm looking at the 2006 -2007 year models. I drove one today AND WOW . I need one for my daily commute. What an awesome car. What are the things to look for, and how reliable are they for DD ?

P,s I was talking to one of hte Lotus guys at Pebble Beach today. He was hinting a lot of F1 stuff going onto the new car, and hinted very light and asked me how i felt with about 500hp flat tq curve ? he said to keep my eyes peeled out for Geneva... hmm..

Anyone know of anyone who might be looking for a 959?

I got to see it earlier in person. It looks fantastic. Apparently they want to get it to 2950 dry weight. My only problem with it is it's only going to be offered in pdk. Cool car but I'm not sure it's for me. It looks like a glorified boxter spyder. Cool thing about it is Porsche will be using the rs spyder v8 from the lemans car. Brake system for fronts is identical to all other pccb. I'm not a fan of the car honestly. If I had money I'd buy a cgt n gt2rs as you will see pdk as standard across the board from what the marketing person told me. So no more cars design w a 6speed in mind. My guess it will turn out like the m5/6 that are design for smg but shove a 6speed...:/

Vintage race posters

Long story short is at home my Union delegate has told me I need to clean up my home "office/man cave". For years I have had a large table in there that I have always laid my posters out flat on. Well, today I had to roll them up and put them into storage :crying:. I decided to take some pictures of some of the ones I had forgotten about that really are fun to remember. Most of the stuff I have is Synergy Racing stuff so it was fun to find some other items not related.

1988 when Hurley Haywood won the Detroit race with the AUDI 200 Turbo charged machines. I need to find it again but ESPN ( I think? ) did a special on this year with AUDI called the "Unfair Advantage". If anyone has a copy of that please feel free to let me know where you are posting it!

This one has always been rather special to me since it is a Porsche Factory poster and they had two of our cars on there when before we were Synergy Racing and we were G&W Motorsports.

I know this was not very long ago but it is an instant classic. The poster came out before the race ( obviously ) and Patrick Long ended up taking P1 in the Ruby Tuesday car. He was in 3rd position at the top of the down hill roller coaster on the last lap and when they rolled out of Hog pen onto the straight he was in first. He is an absolute talent and the real deal!

I know this is biased, but this was made by our friends at CDOC after we took the 2005 GT Championship from David Murry's dramatic jump off of the curbing in Mexico City to beat Andy Laly in the TRG Pontiac. Sorry Andy.
