So last Saturday my brother-inlaw suffered a "minor" heart attack... He's 38 and "looks" reasonably fit...2 stints and a pledge to stop smoking...

So last Saturday my brother-inlaw suffered a "minor" heart attack... He's 38 and "looks" reasonably fit...2 stints and a pledge to stop smoking later, he's back at home recovering. Talk about a shock to our family.

I'd already been changing my lifestyle, drinking less booz, eating less beef, no pork, and all lean and green "stuff"... But this was indeed a wake-up call for me... My goal is to get back into a reasonable state of fitness so I can go off and do some endurance racing over the next few years. My other goal has always to get back into "fighting" shape.

See, I used to be a competitive cyclist, racing mountain bikes in 12 hour solo endurance races, or "Sprint" races that lasted about an hour and a half. Just depended... Injuries and changes in life (Got married and started my own company) sidelined me in 2003 and before you know it we're in 2010 and I'm 50# heavier than I was when I was racing... How the hell did this, 'er never mind... The Dr. put me on crestor about 6 months ago, due to raised cholestoral numbers, and I really hate being on a "maintenance" drug. So that's the ultimate health goal...Get off the drug and lose about 40-45 pounds.

So last Saturday, while my brother-inlaw was suffering his heart attack, I was on my road cycle pedaling my fat arse up hills in the local battlefield park. I had experienced a nice morning chat with Craig (*hogapolooza) and his son, Thomas that morning, and just wanted to "do something" physical later that afternoon. So off I went. It wasn't fast and I certainly wasn't going to keep my old 20MPH average over the length of the hillie ride. But I was doing it, and didn't feel "horrible" after...

I had previously scheduled a Dr.'s appointment just to have a few things checked, and well, they did an EKG while I was there. Resting heart rate was 58 and my blood pressure was 100 over 70... So all's good, right? Then he springs on me the "You still might want to do a stress test. Get a baseline, and at your age..." So now I'm scheduled for a stress test on the 13th... lovely, wonderful getting old...

I spend so much time in the shop in the evenings when I'm not doing company stuff, that I forget I "need" to do other "stuff". So five out of the last 7 days I hit the bike or did light jogging for atleast 30 minutes each night.

Let's see if I can "keep it up"...Heart rate monitor - Check. Silly bike clothes from yesterdecade - Check. Clean waterbottles - Check. Fresh batteries for the bike computer - Check.

More to come...

Mike

Suspension comparison advice? JIC/CROSS vs. KW V3 Coilovers

Hey guys, does anyone have direct experience in comparing coilovers between the JIC/CROSS versus the KW V3?

..Looking at several different setups, and while JRZ would be wonderful and a great choice if budget were of no issue, it would probably be more than needed at the time.

I've heard great things about both the JIC/Cross and the KW V3, but they seem to both have different features, and both have had their fair share of positive and negative feedback.

JIC/Cross, I've read referred to as "Motons on a budget", and pros seem to be the independent height adjustment from the lower strut body without altering spring preload, monotube damper design, and that they come "complete" with dampers, linear springs, and top monoball camber plates included. On the flipside, I've heard people complain that these are overly stiff, overdamped, poor customer service, etc.

KW V3, I've heard great things about how smooth and comfortable the ride is with these. Pros seem to be the individual compression and rebound adjustability, "remote" reservoir attached to the strut body, etc. On the other hand, in comparison to the JIC/Cross, these do not include any top mounts, and the springs are non-linear, progressive rate springs. While I've heard they are great, I've also heard the front is too soft for the track.

Leaving both of these coilovers in stock trim, without having to purchase top plates for the KW, for instance, or without changing out the progressive springs for linear rate, would you go with the JIC/Cross or the KW V3? This would be for a primarily street driven car, that would see a few track events per year at the current time.

All of this is stuff I've heard from others, or have read, so I'm not speaking from personal experience, but would like to hear your thoughts and comparisons if you have any experience with these two coilovers.

Thanks in advance!

Please tell me this was not one of you guys. :bulgy-eyes: What a dum dum head.

Via yovenice.com

There is a longstanding rivalry between Porsche and Ferrari owners. Porsches win races, Ferraris not so much. That is with real drivers on race courses however. Racing on the streets of Venice all bets are off, especially when someone with no talent gives it a go like allegedly happened earlier this evening.

From what witnesses say, Ed M., aka "Mr. White GT3RS" was allegedly racing a black Ferrari. The Ferrari driver allegedly realized that Market Street dead ends and hit the brakes. "Mr. White GT3RS" swerved to miss him and hit a Mercedes then spun around and hit a black car. One woman was almost run over.
"Mr. White GT3RS" allegedly paid a tow truck driver in cash to haul the car away before the LAPD came. The LAPD was called around 7 pm and showed up at 8:30. They have the plate number.

Mr White GT3RS guy: There are plenty of places to legally race your vehicle. Yer a kook for supposedly doing it on the streets of Venice. Get it? Got it? Good. Go get yourself a Prius as you obviously do not have the skills or maturity to drive a GT3RS on public roads. The RS with half cage looks cool, but you need training wheels dude.
If your car got hit, here is who you are looking for: California Plate 6LjR555.
